Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 I did this very sweet 1/2 hr Halloween-themed yoga video with my daughter, who is dressed like a skeleton. She seemed pretty happy about it (especially with the dancing parts), and then put herself down for a nap immediately afterwards.

It's scheduled to rain all day, so I'm trying to have a fun, indoor Halloween-themed day. Maybe we'll carve the pumpkin from our yard this afternoon. It's not completely orange, but it didn't taste very good in soup, so I'm not sure what else to do with it anyway. We'll see.

Today I drove the furthest I have thus far with my daughter to visit a friend on her lunch hour, as she had yet to meet my little love. We went to a park and then took a tiny stroll. It's been too long and I've missed my friends.

My daughter was up for three hours in the night, so she caught up on those hours on the drive there, the drive back, then seated in the driveway (for over an hour). She was finally back to her chipper self when she woke the last time. 

We played in the backyard in the late afternoon. Autumn weather is suddenly, finally, descending.

 After yesterday's steps surpassed 20000, I wasn't feeling much like doing anything today.

This morning, I pushed my daughter in her backyard swing for awhile. This afternoon, I took a very short walk around the neighbourhood while she napped.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 After two days inside and, with such beautiful weather, both my daughter and I were itching to get out for long walk today. I walked to Downsview Park (about 1 hr 35 minutes each way), which I've only driven to before. We had a picnic while we were there, we walked the trails, and we played in the playground. We stopped at the Grocery Outlet on the way back and I picked up something (gloriously discounted) for each of the three of us (a pack of Cliff Bars for my husband, some Baby Mum Mum crackers for my daughter and a 1kg pack of Lightlife veggie nuggets for me).

 I was too sleepy to update yesterday, but my husband, daughter and I took a short-ish walk (6200ish steps) to, through, and back from York Cemetery. I never in my life expected to find a cemetery so peaceful and beautiful.

Today it called for rain all day, so I did a 35 minute yoga video this morning.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

My mom drove my daughter and I to the Science Centre, and we all met up with my sister and her family. We walked around for a few hours inside. It's the first indoor communal space I've been for an extended time period in 1 year and 8 months. I have a lot of trouble dealing with the fear and anxiety that comes from putting my daughter in potentially dangerous situations. I feel this every day. 

In any case, she had an absolute blast, saw her only cousins for the third time ever, and has never said WOAH and WOW so much in the span of a few hours. Also, they have vax pass there, so at least antivaxx parents aren't dragging in themselves and their spawn. Also, cleaning and spacing seemed appropriate. That's something more than nothing.

 My daughter and I walked to the outdoor community market today. I hoped to pick up a squash for a soup, but no luck. I did, however, get a vegan blueberry strudel. 

I stopped in Willowdale Park on the way back while she napped.

 I drove half an hour to Evergreen Brickworks with my daughter and toured the whole site. I've been there twice (once for an art show and once for a second-hand swap), but I've never seen all the outdoor spaces in entirety. I already loved it, but now I love it even more. We'll be back.

 It seems my daughter and I live at parks now. We walked to Ellerslie Park, stopped and played awhile. Then we walked to the bank to run an errand. Next, we walked to Earl Bales Park and played in the playground. Then we walked home. Later on, we played in the backyard.

 We back on a schoolyard, and this soccer ball showed up in the backyard. I kicked it around awhile. 

Then I harvested a LOT of fallen ground cherries and a kid on the other side of the fence spotted me in the back garden and asked if a soccer ball had ended up in our yard. I passed it back to its rightful owner. Win-win.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 Today, I drove my daughter and myself 40 minutes to visit a dear friend. It's the furthest we've driven. We walked down the street and played in a park and my daughter laughed and laughed when I held her as she slid down the end segment of a twisty slide so I had to do it six times and that's definitely my arm workout for the day. It was a really great day.

Here is her all tuckered out in the driveway. She fell asleep in her car seat as soon as we left and kept on sleeping there for an hour after we got home (!)

 I took a walk with my daughter through Willowdale Park to Sheppard East Park and back. I walked through Gibson Park just to take photos of this T.S. Eliot inscription. It was a cool and sunny autumn day. We dressed in layers. She napped. It was nice. After five years, this neighbourhood is finally starting to feel familiar to me.

I did some yoga this morning with my little yoga buddy, who is here doing her version of warrior, mimicking the video we were watching:


In the early afternoon, we went for a short walk. I camped out in a gazebo in our second-closest park while she napped, safe from the light rain. When she woke up, we went on the swings.

 I took a walk with my daughter to and through the weekly Farmers' Market. I didn't see anything we needed, so we walked back home through Willowdale Park. She napped awhile.

 I walked over an hour each way to The Grocery Outlet, a discount grocery store chain with sites devoted to vegan hauls because apparently they have so many vegan choices.

 They weren't wrong. 

Their selection was sort of overwhelming, so I bought some J U S T Plant Egg (because it is supposedly delicious and I've never had it) + some vegan bite-sized samosas. I also bought some Bob's Red Mill activated yeast (which expires in a couple weeks, so I'm hoping this will motivate my bread making goal quickly!) and scored a good deal on some wipes and disposable diapers for overnights.


13380 steps so far today.

(Also I can't believe the weather this October. It felt like a mid-July day.)

My daughter and I drove 20 minutes to Toronto Botanical Garden / Edward Gardens and then walked around for a couple hours. Admission was free, parking was cheap, it was beautiful, and I'd love to go back and bring more family members.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 I went to Pumpkinfest at Downsview Park in the morning with my parents, husband, and daughter. It was too crowded for my comfort, so we didn't stay long.



We ordered lunch, then in the afternoon I took a short walk with my daughter to an empty local park. She went on the swing, one of those animal things on springs, a small plastic merry-go-round, and we went down a slide together. She loved it, and cried to leave. We'll go back.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 Today I decided to walk with my daughter to our local vegan donut place, to pick up a box of six for ourselves and my husband (who also loves them!).

I've never visited there in person, and for a long time I wouldn't go anywhere that wasn't outdoors with my daughter, as there are too many antivaxxers out there who are willing to put children at risk, and COVID transmission rates are significantly higher indoors. This makes me nervous. I still don't go anywhere indoors for extended periods of time - but, with vaccine mandates, it may make things easier for us in time. I will do short pick-ups now, though.

It was a nice walk there -- most of the way through the long winding paths of Willowdale Park and then down a long street with a lot of mansions.

 Rainy day. I took another walk to Earl Bales Park this morning with my daughter, entering via another (third) entrance. I'm starting to stitch together a larger visual map of the place in my head.

We visited the sensory garden, which I hadn't before. It was nice. 

I also love passing all the houses decorated for Halloween this time of year.

Progress: #10. Do something active for 3 months straight

 Today was the second day in a row that my daughter had a rough sleep, so she was quite fussy this morning. I decided we would spend all day outside (because I think my daughter would live outside if she could) and made a plan. I preordered, by app, a lunch to pick up for us at Fresh for 12:45. This kept me sticking to the route. 

First, I walked to the coffee shop with my favourite beans. It's called De Mello and I discovered it via a gift Roaster's Pack coffee bean subscription. I've only ever ordered them online afterwards, so I'd never been there, though it is an hour and thirty-eight minute walk from my house. Today, I bought four different coffees (only one I've had before), and a pin for my coat. 



Next, we walked 10 minutes to Fresh and waited to pick up our lunch.

Afterwards, we walked 25ish minutes to a really beautiful memorial gardens (Alex Muir) we walked past on the way to De Mello and put out our blanket for a picnic lunch. 



Then we walked an hour and seventeen minutes back home. She napped for 45 of those minutes.




I'm at 23101 steps for today, which is a record in the two and a bit years I've been tracking.
